Civic engagement took center stage at Porterville College as nearly 200 students, faculty, staff, and local residents gathered in the Student Center from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. for the Porterville City Council Candidates Forum.

Sponsored by the Porterville Chamber of Commerce, the evening served as an open platform for candidates to present their visions for the future of Porterville while giving voters a front-row seat to essential municipal discussions.

The event commenced with opening remarks and a warm welcome from Reagen Dozier, a Porterville Chamber of Commerce Board Member and PC's Director of Student Success Programs, highlighting the vital partnership between Porterville College and the Porterville Chamber of Commerce. Beyond serving as an educational hub, Porterville College continues to stand as a community cornerstone where meaningful collaboration and open dialogue can thrive.

Throughout the two-hour forum, candidates engaged in lively and substantive conversation, addressing key issues facing the city. Topics ranged from strategic economic development and sustainable job growth to municipal budgeting priorities, infrastructure maintenance, and public services.

The evening concluded with questions submitted by attendees and posed directly to the candidates, followed by final closing statements from each participant.

Events like this underscore the profound value of hosting civil discourse on a college campus. By bringing local governance directly into an academic setting, Porterville College offers students a tangible lesson in civic participation—demonstrating how community leaders, residents, and future professionals can come together to discuss complex challenges with mutual respect and shared purpose.

PC extends its sincere gratitude to the Porterville Chamber of Commerce, the candidates, and everyone in attendance who helped make this forum an engaging and informative evening for our community.
